Written Prescriptions

How is medication supplied to your pet?

During your pet’s consultation, we will carry out a full examination and discuss the best treatment plan. In some cases, this may include prescription medication.

You have two options for obtaining your pet’s medication:

  • Purchase directly from us, or

  • Request a written prescription to buy medication elsewhere

What is a Written Prescription?

A written prescription is a legally binding document that is generated by a vet which authorizes you to purchase your pet’s medication from a pharmacy instead of directly from the veterinary practice.
It contains information about your pet, their medication, and the dosage.

In the past, written prescriptions used to be physical pieces of paper, however they are now digital documents that are not routinely printed.

  • Costs:

    • £20 for the first medication

    • £12 for each additional medication on the same prescription

    Example:
If your pet needs three medications, the total cost would be £44 (£20 + £12 + £12)

  • Prescriptions are usually provided for up to 3 months’ supply, depending on the medication and condition.
